there's a character with a similar style of talking in Terry Pratchetts Unseen University stories - the charcter called simply "The Librarian" was the university's head librarian magically transformed into an Orangutan.

Everything he says is reduced to "oook", one of the stories reveal the Librarian is working on a Oranguntan to Human dictionary & phrasebook.....one tiny problem
